About The Book
Claudia and Maria grow up as happy playmates and the best of friends. Claudia, the elder by three years, is protective of her sibling, whose fun-loving ways often lead her into trouble. When their mother dies, Maria feels secure in the knowledge that Claudia is there to help and guide her. Both sisters are confident that nothing can shatter their close relationship.
But suddenly the bond between them is blown apart by the arrival on the scene of handsome, Italian businessman, Stefano Volpe. With his continental charm and dazzling smile, he enters their lives with disturbing consequences. In a few short weeks an event of heart-breaking proportions breaks the trust between the sisters, souring Claudia’s outlook throughout her working life, and causing her to sever all ties with Maria for the next forty years.
Each sister treads a path of suffering, and neither will be able to share their burdens with the one person who knows them better than they know themselves and who had always, in the past, brought comfort. The golden thread which binds the sisters together is stretched to breaking point.
But a chance encounter eventually leads to a miracle. Claudia and Maria, now so different from their youthful persona, both bruised by all they have endured, discover unexpected sources of happiness. Reunited at last, they delight in each other’s company and as Claudia provides strength and comfort to her now ailing sister, she learns to live and love again.
